ICOMOS-UK is the UK National Committee of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). At an international level, ICOMOS develops best practice in the conservation and management of cultural sites, and has a special role as adviser to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on cultural World Heritage sites.
Active in over countries. ICOMOS is a non-governmental international organisation dedicated to the conservation of the world's monuments and sites.
Due to the spreading of the covid virus, as of Monday 16 March, the ICOMOS International Secretariat has closed its offices in Paris until further notice, in order to ensure the safety of its staff and comply with instructions issued by the French government. ICOMOS-UK has a new Wood Committee. It met for the first time in May and we are pleased to say the new committee is proving to be a great success.
The objectives of the wood committee are to promote understanding and cooperation in the field of conservation of wooden built heritage and to advise on and develop ICOMOS-UK programmes in this field.
